Queen of Chocolate by AkiAmeko Queen of Chocolate by AkiAmeko
My entry for `MonicaWeasley's Yummy Card Contest! [link]

The criteria was to create an image in the style of a playing card, and to feature one of the "Yummy" themes; I chose chocolate. :3

This pic was originally just for Copic practice, but I realized it would work as an entry for the Yummy Card Contest... Which I've been on and off about entering for quite a while. ^^; I'm glad I finally came up with something I like!

I decided to incorporate some other aspects of "Yummy" in there...*cough* Interpret how you will. :ninja:

The strawberries are an inside joke of the "Marchen: The Journey" RP... Long story... :XD: ...Strawberries are kinky. :XD:

So yes, chocolate and strawberries! I hope it's acceptable. ^^;

My first full color pic in entirely Copic markers... I really like how it turned out! (The Q's and the border were added digitally, though.)

Forgive the dotted line you can see when you full view. @_@ It tortures me but I'm too lazy to fix it.

The character featured is my OC, Aki Ameko. :)

Aki Ameko (C) Me!

YUMMY.

EDIT: Got rid of Q's, added watermark, and redid border.

wooo a fully coloured and detailed pic!

I like the concept, strawberries! nom!

I'd suggest darkening the shading a little and adding more depth

Nice job :)!

Thanks so much!

Like I've said in other comments, the lack of darks is due to my lack of Copic Markers...I'll be sure to get some more!

Thanks much! Is there anything you'd like me to critique for you?

The hands have already been mentioned, so~

I think you should do a bit more contrast between the colours; especially those between the actual character and the background. She's blending in a bit too well with the bg. A bit more intense shading and lighting would really help this stand out.

I really love that dress, btw. The folds and creases are great, and the pattern is wonderful as well. The whole concept is cute; reds and browns look great together. (or at least, i think they do  ) Her hair is also really pretty.

:XD: Yes. I think I need to schedule a hand practice session sometime. :XD:

Color contrast has also been mentioned, and the real reason for this is my lack of Copic markers. Thanks for pointing it out though, it teaches me that it really does matter.

Thank you so much for the compliments! I enjoy reds and browns too. They are, well...yummy. :D

Thanks so much for the critique! Is there anything of yours you'd like me to critique for you?

Love the colours you used. The clothes and the hair are cool, but you shoud be careful with the hands: the left one looks a bit too..fat (don't know if it's the right word ^^;), and the right one's angle looks weird (could't tell you exactely why, sorry... >__> it may help looking yourself in a mirror with the same pose)

Thanks for the compliments!

Ah, I know what you mean for the hands. Although the fatness problem wouldn't be solved by looking at myself in the mirror--I've discovered that using myself for a model is not such a good thing because I am fat, and the characters I draw are not. At first I didn't think it made much of a difference--I know what skinny people look like, right?--until I looked at other people's artwork, and looked at real skinny people, and realized there were real features that I was missing. I'm going to have to nab my skinny friend and make her model for me more. :XD:

Thanks so much for the critique! Is there anything of yours you'd like me to critique?

It's also very useful to take a photo and have it at a side while you are painting. I've made it a couple of times (photos of me and my mother :XD:) and it works really good for me. In this picture, for example, I used a photo for referencing the pose of the arms: [link]
Go ahead, ask your friend (because thats what friends are for! :lmao:)
Thanks for the offer  You can take a look at this one, if you have the time [link]

The colors are really nice. I love her hair! *__* You might try adding some colors in the shadows that are complimentary to your light source. For example, if your light source is warm, try some cool colors in the shadows. Also, her right hand (holding the strawberry) looks like it's turned to far. I think her wrist is broken! D:

Cute image. :)

Good critique! Thanks so much!

The lack of darks/contrast is mainly due to my lack of Copic Markers. Those are good suggestions, I'm going to have to get some more so I can try out your ideas. :P

Mmm, yes, that hand. I thought there was something wrong with it. I should have had someone model as reference--I wanted her hand to be positioned in a way that wouldn't cover up the strawberry too much. I'll remember to make a friend model for me next time. :XD:

Again, thanks! Is there a work of yours that you would like me to critique?

Yeah, having people model for you is soooo helpful! I think random chunks of my boyfriend have been in dozens of pictures over the years. :3

Do you have colored pencils? I've seen a lot of people who mix markers and colored pencils, with really nice results. :)

Hmmmm... Well, I'm working on this right now, so I definitely wouldn't mind a critique. :D

LOL. :D I've used my friends for models every now and then, but not often enough.

I do, but not good quality ones... Do you have any examples here on deviantART that show the combo that you can think of?

Yeah, she does in some of her pieces, at least. :) Also, look online to see how much Neopiko Deleter Markers are. I have some of those, and I love how they work. :) I don't know how much they'd cost online, though, since I bought mine in Japan.

You're welcome. :)

The pattern on her skirt is gorgeous! I didn't notice it at first, but it looks really amazing, especially considering how it fits the folds of the fabric. :D Best of luck in the contest~!
